چکیده

As a result of extensive experimental investigations and intensive research programme, it has been possible to synthesize various compounds having tuberculostatic properties (Rist et al, 1940; Lehmann, 1946; Domagk, 1950) and to detect the presence of anti-tubercular activity in a variety of compounds of both synthetic and natural origin (Rake, 1949; Steenken and Wolinsky, 1950; Editorial, 1950, 1951).

Salutary Effects of Cepharanthine against Skeletal Muscle and Kidney Injuries following Limb Ischemia/Reperfusion

Limb ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) causes oxidation and inflammation and subsequently induces muscle and kidney injuries. Cepharanthine, a natural plant alkaloid, possesses anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties. We elucidated the salutary effects of cepharanthine against muscle and kidney injuries following limb I/R. Adult male rats were randomized to receive I/R or I/R plus cepharanthine...

Potentiation by a biscoclaurine alkaloid, cepharanthine, of the toxicity of conjugates of epidermal growth factor with Pseudomonas exotoxin in HeLa cells.

Cepharanthine, a biscoclaurine alkaloid, causes an 8-fold enhancement of the cytotoxic effect of a conjugate of epidermal growth factor (EGF) coupled with Pseudomonas exotoxin in HeLa cells. Cepharanthine also potentiates the effect of Pseudomonas exotoxin. Cepharanthine does not affect the binding and uptake of 125I-EGF by HeLa cells, but it delays the release of radioactivity associated with ...

Cepharanthine inhibits angiogenesis and tumorigenicity of human oral squamous cell carcinoma cells by suppressing expression of vascular endothelial growth factor and interleukin-8.

Cepharanthine is a biscoclaurine alkaloid extracted from Stephania cepharantha Hayata, which is widely used for the treatment of many acute and chronic diseases, and can exert antitumor effects on several human cancer cell lines. However, little is known about the detailed mechanisms of the antitumor activity of Cepharanthine. In the present study, we determined whether Cepharanthine could supp...

Effect of cepharanthine on neuro-humoral excitatory responses of gastric movement in dog.

In order to clarify the role of histamine in the neuro-humoral excitatory mechanism in the stomach, the effect of cepharanthine (an inhibitory agent of histamine release from mast cells) on excitatory response of gastric movement and increase in gastric mucosal histamine content caused by nerve stimulation (vagus and splanchnic nerves) or administration of tetragastrin were investigated in dogs...

Effect of bisbenzylisoquinoline (biscoclaurine) alkaloids on multidrug resistance in KB human cancer cells.

Cepharanthine, a bisbenzylisoquinoline (biscoclaurine) alkaloid, completely overcomes resistance of a multidrug-resistant subline, ChR-24, derived from human KB carcinoma cells, to vincristine, actinomycin D, and daunomycin, and partially overcomes resistance to Adriamycin. Another biscoclaurine alkaloid, berbamine, partially overcomes resistance to these anticancer agents. Accumulation of [3H]...
